Yes 20.00 per hour and even higher is paid for people in the tar sands area. A single bed, very small closet sized room will rent for 2000.00 per month. Meals can easily go as high as 100.00
As far as busing crooks and misfortunes - yes it is very true. All the provinces do it now just Alberta. It is cheap and it is efficient.
Last year there was a public debate when BC was said to be offending Alberta by sending Homeless people to Alberta on the buses.
I personally do no see anything wrong with the plan considering the state of our courts.
There are a lot of Newfies in the West. Good people all. Because of their drive for hard work and ability to work with one another some have established and raised families. Most are still waiting for the day they can move back.
They started to arrive about 10 years ago and moved to the McMurray region where the tar sands are. Yes. they established and did very well in the climate of expansion.
Now, the climate of expansion has grown beyond what the community can support and getting established in even the crudest terms is nearly impossible.
At 20.00 per hour you would starve and have to sleep in a ditch some place. $20.00 per hour is in the realm of "barley making it" in Edmonton and "not making it" in Calgary.
As for the nagging bus thing. Yes it is sooo true. The police in Vancouver don't have to go through courts either. In Alberta they just pick the person up shove them on a bus and go their way. I have to wonder if there is any thinking into which bus they go on. Just out of there seems to be good enough.
Consider it is a year before a person can get before a judge on many of these charges and there is no Gaol for incarceration if they are found guilty, time is marked by allowing them to plead guilty to a lesser charge and do a community service which is not monitored.
There are a lot of ways now to "put" a person through the system and the bus unfortunately seems to be the best plan.

is a link to jobs in Alberta. Most are offering 20.00 or more and people are not filling them because they do not pay sufficient to live on in this proviince.
