Mtn/orascom- absa/bank whk....
Good Shebeeners, it seem we are mnore and more attracting big shots to invest in our economy.
I do not know how much fact is behind the rumours that had been frequenting the Namibian business gossip. It seem ABSA instead of going the hard route of establishing its business from scratch has indicated some take over of the only Namibian owned Commercial bank. Then hit the news around one of the key players in the telecoms industry being possibly bought by MTN. any shebeener is welcome to shed more light on these tit bits.
See below part (unfortunately in Afrikaans) of the source of rumours as well as web link of the whole story:
"

This is an interesting trend considering the overall population size does not necessarily warrant this type of interest. This has also seemingly been eminent on the nuclear debate front (am under correction here, but believe that the french, through AREVA, the Russians etc etc seem to be more and more interested in establishing themselves in the Nam).
Else am also hearing the the magnificent Richard Bronson might want his Virgin businesses penetrating Namibian business arena.
Let's deliberate!!!

Re: Mtn/orascom- absa/bank whk....
jukk,
Market share! MTN and Vodacom are fighting for a greater presence in Africa per se! MTN is leading at the moment ... and with the acquisition of Orascom shares and sectors they will be able to sit Vodcacom ore aan once again ...
Not to forget: Namibia is STILL seen as a sfer spot than SA or some of our other neighbours. Don't be surpised if and and when one of the big companies will try to have a big finger in an emerging ZIM mobile pie!
