HI I've lived in Namibia almost my whole life but am now living in England...but Namibia will always be home to me.
I am so glad i came across this site...to talk to others from home.

Baie gatvol of the UK. Live in the Uk is cold at the moment. I dont like it much - its too enclosed and over populated for me. But I guess it has its upsides - lots of history and ancient buildings and rock groups...haha...
but the english make me laugh when they talk about heatwaves...and its like a mild spring day in Nam...
And biltong is way too expensive here...as are many things from Namibia and South Africa. Hopefully I'll be visiting Namibia soon again.
My folks live in the Caprivi at the moment....beautiful..

Welcome from a fellow Shebeener! Caprivi is beautiful, isn't it? Say what is crime like where you live? You read all these stories about feral youths out of control and youngsters stabbing each other each day. Is it true? How bad is it where you live and generally in the UK? Kind of makes me think Windhoek is a quiet backwater of a town, and probably pretty safe. This is probably a bit private, so please don't feel obliged to answer: But what would make you come back to Nam? I'm just curious, because there are apparently many like you overseas....

Well, yeah, there are many such cases, but not really in this area...they mostly happen in cities. It is scary, especially when it happens to someone you know. Ok she wasnt' stabbed or anything that serious but she was beaten up at school. And her aunt was attacked at 3am by a group of teens - the youngest being about 13 years old.
Yeah Windhoek is a quiet little backwater really, just the way i like it.
The thing that makes me most gatvol here is - 1st, i have to very slowly explain where Namibia is, then they say 'ah South Africa! So are you a racist then?'
AAARRRGFHHHGGH I drives me crazy, espeically as i've never met such rascist people - not all of course, but many of them. And all the political correctness!!!

haha!! I get that way at least once or twice a day - usually at about 7am (or any other time i'm woken before i'm ready) and when i have to deal with the general public!
