Hello Tre,
the indiviudal behind The Shebeen would at this stage like to remain anonymous, simply because he feels that revealing his identity would at this stage not be helpful and serve only as a distraction. That's not to say that he will never reveal his identity. What I can say is that he is Namibian and that he - along with a few occasional helpers - loves his country and its people.
Development on The Shebeen started last year in September, and the site went live in October. It is currently developed and maintained in the private time of the site's creator, with occasional help from others. The rest is made by Namibians, for Namibians - including community members like you.
The idea behind our Shebeen was to create a free and safe online space and community in which Namibians could freely share information, trade, buy + sell, meet each other, build bridges, discuss topical issues, catch up on the latest news, share photos, links, etc. etc. - much of which happens day-in, day-out in real-life Shebeens across our nation.
The web site is Namibia's online Shebeen - Namibia's online community.
The site is a not-for-profit venture, with any income generated by means of advertising being ploughed straight back into the hosting and development costs. There is no corporate or political vested interest or party behind The Shebeen as such, and so the site can develop unfettered and as neutral as possible.
The Shebeen is also meant to bring together Namibians who work and live all over the world and who want to maintain a link to their home country and possibly meet each other.
I know this may not satisfy your curiosity but I'm sure that you'll find out more as time passes.
