    Default Appeal for Jackson Kaujeua

I am reposting this from: Appeal for Jackson Kaujeua - Rise Up

Please do what you can to help this Namibian music icon

    Dear all,

Jackson is in the hospital again. He is suffering from renal impairment and if not treated with dialysis and if not treated SOONEST, he could end up with renal failure, basically his kidneys are going to pack up and this could well be by the end of next week. The only dialysis machine in Windhoek is at a private doctor, for Jackson being considered this expensive treatment, money needs to be pledged. The first session will cost N$ 30'000.

Some friends have decided to pledge money, in case this will not be in time and have the bucks ready in case JK needs dialysis immediately and the doc says its now or never.

If you can help, please contact Andy Botelle at andrewbotelle@yahoo.co.uk or 0811284746 or respond to this message so that I can let him know.

Jackson is remarkably calm and philosophical - he says he is ready to die but wishes for another chance. Let's make sure he gets that chance!

    Thanks,

    Saskia Den Adel

    Default Update on Jackson Kaujeua

(I do not often post issues of a personal nature, but this is of importance not only to me but to Namibia)

    Hi

Just a quick update about jackson K

Any rumours you may have heard, please ignore.

I spoke with JK today (monday midday) and i go see him this evening. He is still in central hospital - 4th floor west wing and doing ok but not great, His medical condition is quite complicated as far as I have been informed but I have not seen the most recent Dr's report,

In a nutshell JK may need dialysis and the Dr is preparing him for that right now with the right drugs etc. I have explained to JK that the money pledged - more than N$20,000 - cannot be used to provide JK with dialysis. A private patient needs approximately N$30,000 a month. Because he has no medical aid and is not rich the Dr's owning the private machines in Maureua mall will not start or even consider giving him dialysis without a guarentee of much much more than this - 100s of thousands of dollars, because if we cannot pay the dialysis forever (which he might need - the Dr's are still not sure), and JK starts dialysis, then the Dr is liable to continue with his treatment: As it was explained to me: It is Namibian law that once a patient starts on dialysis the Dr has to provide dialysis even if the patient cannot pay/defaults on payment. So Dr's simply dont start patients on dialysis, if they are poor, even if they need it. They let them go home and fend for themselves even if they will potentially die.

Hard but true fact - Namibia does not provide free/subsidised health care for poor, private patients that need dialysis. Check The Namibian and there is an article all about it.

Because, then, our little money cannot be used for dialysis I have explained to JK that any of you wishing to pledge money can contact Moses Kairimuti on 081 383 1003 and his email is above who is coordinating efforts to raise sufficient funds to ensure that JK gets the treatment he needs, including potentially dialysis etc. I have been liasing with moses these last few weeks.

I hope this explains things a little.

If you have any queries then please call moses or me if I can help. But I am not a very knowleadgable medical person. Just a good friend of JK.

One thing JK did say was he felt very moved and appreciative of all your efforts and support and love. Truly, it lifted his spirits. And that is exactly what JK needs right now - the right positive frame of mind to push on and not give up. So, i can tell you that your pledges are, and were not, in vain even if we cannot provide JK with everything he needs right now, it certainly helped his morale.

Keep strong and say a little prayer, sing a song or do a healing dance for Papa Jack

    one love

    andy
