Default New Appointments by President Pohamba

Alweendo, Tom Kavaningilamo - New New Director-General: National Planning Commission

In early 1997 Tom Alweendo became the first Namibian Governor of the Bank of Namibia, replacing Malaysian Jafaar bin Ahmad
He has been a strong advocate of keeping the Namibia dollar linked to the South African rand, saying the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. In his regular statements on the economy he has raised concerns about rising levels of government debt and questioned whether the massive financial outlay on education was producing better results.
Alweendo served as the board Chairperson of troubled Air Namibia from the mid-1990s until 2001. He is the Chairperson of the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa

Mr. Ipumbu Shiimi - New Governor of the Bank of Namibia

Mr. Shiimi was in charge of the Financial Intelligence Center and Banking, Supervision, and Financial Markets departments.
Before this appointment, Mr Shiimi served the Bank in various senior management positions, such as Head of Research and Senior Manager Banking Supervision
Department. He holds a Master of Science degree in Financial Economics, Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Principles, both from the University of London,
United Kingdom, Diploma in Foreign Trade and Management, from Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands, An Honours degree in Economics, from the University of
Western Cape, South Africa, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree: Economics and Accounting, from the same University. Mr. Shiimi also holds Certificates in Senior and
Executive Management from the University of Stellenbosch, Wits Business School, respectively.

    Lieutenant General (retired) Lucas Hangula

Lieutenant General (retired) Lucas Hangula has been appointed as Director General of the Namibia Central Intelligence Service (NCIS)

Lucas Hangula was a senior figure in the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (Plan) before 1990. Since independence he has emerged as one of Swapo’s most trusted members when it comes to security matters. Consequently, it was not a surprise when President Hifikepunye Pohamba appointed him to head the intelligence services in March 2005.
Unlike his predecessor Peter Tsheehama, Hangula did not take up a seat in parliament as well. Hangula lead the Namibian Police from 1995 to 2005 with the rank of Lieutenant-General. Previously, he had been a senior civil servant in the Ministry of Home Affairs and was also the chairperson of the presidential commission that decides on pardons and remission of sentences.
From 1996 to 2000, he was a board member of the Development Brigade Corporation and the Transport Board of Namibia.
In 2004, Hangula received the Namibia Eagle First Class Medal in recognition of his role in the liberation struggle.
