Indeed, Oneword - Rome was not built in one day. But clearly he's being lined up to succeed Pohamba. It will be interesting to see whether the Omusati clique (and others in SWAPO) will play along and let him rule unhindered (if he ever gets to be President) or whether they will keep playing the ethnic card to frustrate his Government's policies and decisions. Personally I don't believe the Oshiwambo-speaking SWAPO base - especially the Chiefs - will stand for it, but we shall see.

Yes. They have him for the time-being. It seems inordinately hasty, though, that he jumped basically straight from Zero to Hero. Is his vice-presidency the fatted calf? Is there something we do not know about???

Geingob's return to favour, and now the vice-presidency of SWAPO Party so shortly after his return from a job in Washington does indeed seem too good to be true, considering how he fell from grace in the first place. He must have obviously enjoyed continued grass-root support, despite Nujoma giving him the boot. Maybe it is as simple as the fact that with Nujoma essentially out of the way, he takes up the space that was created when he left? He has been remarkably quiet about all these issues, which only adds to the mystery. I can't see the blackmail thing, though. What are you getting at OneWord?

Basically playing on the hypothesis that Geingob MAY have in some way given people the impression that the allegiance had been ever so slightly dented. To keep him in the fold .........

Interesting thought there. Geingob on the RDP bandwagon would have been a good vote puller. If it is true, he has a few years as SWAPO's vice-president and then that's that. RDP would have been a better long-term proposition. Let's ask the man himself: "Comrade Geingob - what is the story? We know you read The Shebeen, so what's up? Let's hear it from the vice-president's mouth. Relieve us from our suffering!"

No, I don't think so. Geingob returned to the fold. Back then he was kicked out by Nujoma and not all of SWAPO. Now he is back, and they have taken him back in, like a lost son. I agree with Comrade_007 that the reason is straight.
