    Default Political parties: Online presence

OK, so I see someone is plugging away for RDP on HelloNam in a Social Group, and the new party does have a pretty informative and decent web site which is also listed on this web site in the Directory

And then there's the Congress of Democracts, who don't yet have a social group here but have a web site listed in the Directory, but there seem to be some technical issues here (not a good omen, now is it?).

But what about the dominant SWAPO and the other smaller political parties, liek DTA, Nudo, RP .... I think it's reptty obvious that having a web site is not a priority for Namibian poliutical parties, since the vast majority of Namibians do as yet not have full-blown Internet access, and other media such as radio and television are far more important from a strategic and policial commmunication point-of-view.

But I do also think the fact that SWAPO does not have a web site says something about this organisation. Have they become far too comfortable in power and simply don't see the neede for an online communciation strategy, or don't they have anthing interesting to say to the world and thos Namibians that are online? Or am I simply looking in the wrong place? After all, web sites such as this get a tremendous amount of traffic from foreign visitors.

Well, the SWAPO Youth League, although sometimes befuddled politically, is up to date with their very decent blog/website at www.spyl.org.

They, or to be precise, the Secretary-General Elijah Ngurare himself, even maintain a fan page for Nujoma on Facebook. Funnily some bloke first did not understand the concept of a Facebook fan page and accussed the makers of the page of impersonation.

The page currently has a 1000 fans.
Namibia Blog at www.i-namibia.de -- it is getting better all the time!

That is indeed a decent blog that the SYL has up-and-running. But what about the real thing, the parent party? I just think that if SWAPO does not maintain a web site where it communicates its programmes and manefiesto, as well as policy principals it creates the impression that there is a very thin line between the State and the ruling party. We all know how his the party has become the State and vice versa.
