Straightforward and honest wages are needed in Namibia.
Our people don't need to be exploited by any work forces, be it foreign or national.
Everybody should earn a wage to support him or his family.
Is this not what we need in Namibia?

Re: Straightforward and honest wages are needed in Namibia.
This can be solved in one of the following ways:
- lunch a public debate on the introduction of a statutory minimum wage in Namibia
- would in some respect be a limitation of collective bargaining autonomy as far as low pay is concerned, never the less ... this will put everything in motion.
Is this an answer to your question?

Re: Straightforward and honest wages are needed in Namibia.
That is why we have a new labour act - much more expressive on minimum wages/salaries

This is news to me Pieter, equivalently what are we looking at in terms of sector services, first in line for the implementation of this act. Is a programme to implement this Agreement in progress? Or are they commenced with its implementation?

pangkas,
PETER, please.
Check the document; it is quite easily obtainable. Peruse and then maybe come back with questions. Remember - I am not a labour expert or consultant

Peter,
apropos Peter aka Pete, you are sharp and effective as always, I will look into the Administrative law, legal field, and through friendly consultations I will follow up on specifics for legal exchange.

Re: Straightforward and honest wages are needed in Namibia.
the labour act is flawed , it has created more unemployment although those still employed earn higher wages , work less hours and have more money in their pockets.
this applies to companies that actually follow the act , those who have decided to snub their noses at the act do so with the apparent blessings of the government because they won or were given the tender by the government.
it would seem the biggest culprit in the unfair treatment of workers is the officials who oversee these tendered projects.
blaming foreign companies alone dismisses the blame that the very same people who enacted the act should carry.
workers are protected by law , if the law decides that only some companies or nationalities are accountable then this is called poor governance.
how do you fix this .. simple ..

even those who have lost jobs, should be looked after by a social system that urgently needs to be implement to save those who were once the bread winners. only in doing this, it would truly reflect that the Namibian people are indeed serve by a government that care.
a functional social structure is needed for our society and good cooperation should be the foundation.
