Ministers owing money for municipal services

I'd like to raise this issue about Ministers not paying their electricity and water bills as well as taxes and owing the Windhoek Municipality hundreds of thousands of dollars. If it is indeed true that even senior members of Government like Hage Geingob, Nangolo Mbumba, Raphael Dinyando, Tjekero Tweya as well as National Assembly Speaker Theo-Ben Gurirab have not been up-to-date with their payment on their domestic bills and rates then we should be very worried indeed.

For how can we entrust them with the business of running our country at senior level, if they cannot even run thweir private affairs in a proper manner? It is disgraceful!!!

Why should we not assume that this is also they way they run public affairs? If ever there was a case for the new Anti-Corruption Commission to prove to the nation that it is fulfilling its mandate then this is it.

Why should people who do not pay their bills bear the consequences, and not Ministers and senior Government officials?

This is absolutely scandalous and I for one look forward to see a full, proper account of this matter - nothing more, nothing less.

This facility is named "quick reply". Mine is: "Because the people at the municipality are afraid to ask them for outstanding funds".

Yeah, right - I'd also like to be regularly reminded and asked by the Municipality to pay my bills, sort of as a special personal service. Maybe with a gold-plated envelope and an after-dinner mint along with it, delviered in a limousine. After all, I am so busy running my Ministry or public institution that I completely have no time to take care of my domestic affairs. But then, I would have someone else take care of that, wouldn't I?

Point being: They should not have to be asked, just like everybody else. I mean do you get a phone call once a month from a friendly employee at the Municipality to ask you to please, please pay your bill? Ok, maybe you do, Oneword - I temporarily forgot about your status

But seriously. It's nonsense for them to plead this or that. Paying your bills on time, all the time is the honourable thing to do, whether you are the President, the Prime Minister or a goat herder in the lower reaches of the Kunene river. The fact that we would even argue about this is in itself outrageous.
