    Default Electricity Control Board Survey

The ECB is currently running a survey amongst domestic consumers to get an indication if consumers would prefer higher tariff increases (this is not to say that there will be no tariff increases, they might just be not as high) or scheduled load shedding for up to two hours daily. This survey will run from 4-11 April 2008 and consumers can cast their vote either by sending an SMS to the number 555 with the words “tariffs” for higher tariff increases or “load shedding” if they prefer load shedding. They can also vote on the ECB website at Electricity Control Board Namibia - Home.

The only load-shedding I would agree to is if someone were to take some of my load off my shoulders. LOL?

Thanks, juikk! I missed that one.

Juikk, does "load shedding" implies lower wattage while price remains constant in exchange for no tariff and the vice versa? Please, elaborate

    Hi Phelakuti
Load shedding= controlled/intentional power outages for, according to ECB up to 2 hrs daily(hopefully not more ;-)

The current vote count on their website is as follows:

    Your Vote Counts!

UPDATE! The ECB requests that all domestic electricity users vote for either planned outages or increased electricity tariffs. Click Here to read more about this vote.
    The results so far:

    HIGHER TARIFFS: 29.01%

    SCHEDULED OUTAGES: 70.99%

Well just visit the link provided in the first posting and cast your vote. I do not know if the figures on the web includes the sms vote results too...

lates results for this poll at 20h01 on 10 apr 2008 leads :

    The results so far:

    HIGHER TARIFFS: 50.69%

    SCHEDULED OUTAGES: 49.31%

interesting, I think even if we vote higher rates instead of scheduled power outtings, we will one way or another end up having the power cuts, hence we get both when we vote for higher rates, just saying...

i voted with the view that higher rate could minimize the cut offs.

Higher tariffs are good and well for those that can afford it. What about those who already struggle to have electricity and afford the montly bills - however they are paid (prepaid or bill)?

Would a vote for a higher tariff still be to their benefit?

Lower wattage, phela-not-so-cute, means (in many instances) that things go up in smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy electricians!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

perhaps, you are right but I had assumed that the commercial sector basically takes a hire priority, since it in turn benefit all. Personally, I would rest assured knowing that the surgical operation theater has uninterupted flow, than having my reading lights disturbed.

I got you. I am not in favor of the smoke, plus it most seems to opt for lower rates. Personally, I am yet to experience the phenomenon. How does it feel to be cut off for even one hour. I have got no experience. honestly. Where I am prices did go up last summer. And that's all.
