Talking about Parliament
How relevant is Parliament really in a political system that - while providing for regular elections and a Bill of Human Rights - is essentially completely dominated by one political party (SWAPO Party of Namibia) and the Executive, in the form of the offices of the Prime Minister and President? How much free, meaningful debate and oversight of the Government's activities does Parliament really provide? How many laws are merely rubber-stamped as opposed to debated and properly analysed? Have the SWAPO Party of Namibia representatives grown accustomed to imposing their will on Parliament, whether right or wrong? Do the opposition parties hold any sway in Parliament? If not, why not? These are but a few fundamental questions that come to mind when thinking of Parliament.
Let's use this threat to talk about Parliament.
