Speaking at a SWAPO rally at the southern sea port town of Luderitz, Mr. Hage Geingob the SWAPO Vice-President accused opposition leaders of suffering from what he termed as a “Savimbi syndrome”.

Jonas Savimbi was an Angolan rebel leader who caused untold miseries death and destruction in Angola. He also caused deaths to Namibia citizens during the Angolan civil war.

What Geingob may have forgotten is that Savimbi and his UNITA terrorist outfit was created by SWAPO and others to fight the MPLA in the early sixties.

SWAPO provided UNITA with military training and logistical support including uniforms, guns and ammunitions. UNITA first field commanders were trained in China under the cover of SWAPO or as SWAPO members.

The statement by Mr. Geingob that: “the moment Savimbi died, there was peace in Angola” is a call and an incitement to political murder similar to what happened in the Lubango dungeons. It is sad that Mr. Geingob himself a former candidate for the SWAPO dungeons in Lubango is trying to raise his status in SWAPO by resorting to irresponsible statements such is this one.

Mr. Geingob and others who think like him must realize that the elimination of political figures or just attempt therefore will lead to civil confrontation in which he and his likes would be affected. The RDP therefore demand that Mr. Geingob withdraw his remarks unconditionally.
