The Communications Bill
Ladies and Gents, no discussion on this? No polls? Come on Shebeeners!! I personally wanted to to know what your views are on whether or not having taxpayers carry yet another burden in the name of the much discussed interception centre/s is fair or not.
Then I also wanted to garner opinions on how this bill effects banking. Should banking be an exception and be viewed above this law to be, or not?
Not to talk about the human capital to mann such centres. Are the interception centres going to head hunt expertise from the industry itself? Who better to mann these centres to prevent a potential national catastrophe, than those who are tech savvy enough and well versed in the telecoms industry? or are we going to entrust foreigners to run these centres?
Let's discuss!!!...and maybe vote if there will be polls worth the voting on this topic!!

Re: The Communications Bill
Yeah. Why do those of us that use the web and the internet from wayback not even discuss the issue?
First, let's seperate two issues:
1. The Interception clause - this was never part of the Bill in the ten years i have been working and commenting on it. It was added by the Minister just before submitting to Parliament.
2. The Bill will promote competition.
Let me ask the following:
Who has the most to benefit from adding the "spy"part?
Who ar the companies that argue it will cost too much to implement?
Who benefits the most from having the Bill delayed?
If you have answered the same three companies for all of the above questions, you know why we do not bother discussing the Bill - sans spying.
So the Bill has been discussed ad naseum and is probably the best in the region. The "Spy Clause" is also the best in the region - see Zimbabwean legislation.
