    Pangkas,

Re: reasons for leaving your country of birth:

And let us not forget - in your instance - the attraction of the fleshpots of Germany or wherever you may be enjoying life.........

Switerzland and Norway are not part of the European Union (EU) and Germany made the dual citizenshop law easier some 2 years ago. Under specific circumstances Germans can keep their German citizenship while getting a second one and every child born with at least one German parent can keep both citizenships and do not have to decide any longer at their 18th birthday.

No , this is not so easy. In germany , one must apply before taking on another citizeship, to keep the German one. I know, I did not and just lost mine, after 63 years, by taking on the Australian one. Big trap! One must ask before hand and have it approved, also true for spouses and children...

I for one do not agree with this idea. Simply cause it will only suit those that want to get their bread buttered two ways around.

The one reason many of the older German citizens who have been in Namibia for 20 years or more is purely financial:

    1.) They qualify to have their children educated (tertiary education) basically free of charge;

2.) They still qualify for a German old-age pension which, by any means, is rather more substantial that the state pension paid by the Namibian government.

And the English, Italians and especially American Comrades .... point being: The cost to the country and the economy will be very high if people are forced to take a decision either way.

From my eyes, my long term plan is to contribute to the development of Namibia and its people. As a US citizen, I would love the option of also EARNING Namibian citizenship (just don't let everyone in).

But I don't live in .NA every day. What do you all see as reasons why dial citizenship is a bad thing?

Cheers and very happy to have come across this BBS.

I think there is a perception on the part of some people in the government that if you have two citizenships your loyalty to either one or the other country is somehow diluted, or can be questioned. And of course there is a purely political motive is well: It is easier to control and coerce someone who only has one citizenship. On the other hand it is a useful tool to control immigration.

The reality, of course, is that the benefits of allowing people to have two valid citizenships far outweigh the downsides, especially in open, democratic and tolerant societies as ours. It gives people international mobility and the ability to build economic and political bridges between our country and the rest of the world. In an interconnected, increasingly borderless world such as ours I would argue that this should not be underestimated. So I think under some circumstances there is a strong case to be made for allowing dual cizitenships for us.

I contribute to this country and have trained at least 30 Namibians and given them jobs yet Namibia is making it impossible for me to stay. I fell in love with Namibia and a Namibian , it hurts me everyday knowing i will have to leave it all behind soon because
your government does not want foreigners in your country.
I think the government of Namibia is making a huge mistake in not looking at the situation as a case by case basis.

If i'm a chinamn and the only skill i have is shovelling holes, you do not need him , If i'm a foreigner with skills that are not found in Namibia the governent does not need me.
Soon i will say farewell to Namibia and i will be very sad because i would throw away my old citizenship in a second just to remain for the rest of my life here.
power corrupts , absolute power spends my taxes on really really stupid things.
