No, I don't think so Uncle Paul. More people will leave SWAPO probably even senior people. But I don't think there will be a split.
Oh the joys of politics. Everything changes all the time, also in politics. So, my friends: Is sWAPO about to split? Are the differences between the different factiosn now so deep that a colation Government is a possibility in the near future?
No, I don't think so Uncle Paul. More people will leave SWAPO probably even senior people. But I don't think there will be a split.
"Nothing is complete and thus nothing is exempt from criticism." - James Luther Adams:
100% with Comrade on d@ one. Coalition GRN....that is not entirely impossible though (might it even be not btw Swapo & RDP, but RDP and party X?), depending on how many leave SWAPO to form/join other Parties and how strong these respective parties will be standing in the next elections, e.g. RDP, COD....
To tell the truth, it is difficult to pre-empt which party currently has more supporters, change has been so rapid & haphazard on the political front recently. SWAPO, RDP, COD,Party X??? I guess it is a matter of giving it time and see what happens.
My Question, what do you all think is the public perception of which is indeed the best party to belong to?
While time goes by SWAPO will have problems saying it is the best party for the country. The people they will say you've had over 20 years in power and look what you've done. There comes a day for every horse, also old political parties.
Whatever we may want or dream about SWAPO will not split in the face of the present day challenges. yes, there are problems in the party but none of these are of such magnitude as to split the party.
To the contrary, Swapo has always emerged stronger in the face of such challenges. Every time there seems to be a crisis, you see many more people remembering their "Swaponess" and adorn their homes, cars and other paraphernalia with party colours. Some houses and shebeens even sport flags as big as bed sheets on their rooftops. That is the Swapo I know, a party that closes ranks in the face of adversity.
In short, expect some people to leave the party because they can't get what they want but do not expect that to cause a split. Swapo is too big for a split. Maybe in the next century.
Zakesman, while it is interesting to note a hint of iron willed loyalty, I'd say try another term and not centuries or even decades to start with...
In general, is politics not all about what one can gain or not anyway? considering SWAPO gives little to the Majority that keep them in power(e.g. 'the SWAPO Kids'), their future is definately debatable....
"Maybe in the next century." That was said tongue in cheek to emphasise that Swapo will probably be shaken but not be broken in the short to medium term (20 years). That is how confident I am in the affinity that Swapo people have with Swapo.
You cannot call 50 Swapo Kids the majority. They are part of the majority and as I stated in an earlier post, it is on record that Government has put in motion plans to address their plight. Mind you, there are many such groups that need government's attention and if all of them decide to march and camp in front of the line ministry where will we end up.
Government is certainly not oblivious of their plight nor is it doing nothing. There might be some slowness to the process but government being government, you must appreciate that things could be done faster.
As a graduate from the University of Wisdom, I agree that politics is about what one can gain or not gain and if I read you well, Swapo would not be so foolish as to ignore the Swapo Kids or other social groupings for therein lies the strength and power of the party.
You are again right to say the future of the Swapo Kids is debatable. My contribution of the debate is that they must exercise patience and wait for government to spell out its plans. Also, some of those Swapo Kids are grown up and can fend for themselves. They will not get jobs or education by sitting on those pavements day in day out.
Zakesman, I meant the future of SWAPO itself is indeed debateable(I do definately not think they will remain in the power position they currently occupy for much longer than another term, not decades).....when I mentioned the 'Swapo kids/Struggle kids' as part of majority, it is not limited to the '50' of them, I include all those who have to dwell in shacks, go jobless & hungry, while we build unneccesarily expensive offices and statehouses, ignoring the plight of the very same majority who keep the greedy SWAPO leaders in power.
Of course, lack of voter education is definately an advantage for the Greed to remain in power(on which they vehemently capitalise), so I am sorry to have to counter, YES, SWAPO is indeed stupid and arrogant enough(and had been for quite some time) to continue reaping the benefits at the expense of the majority of this country ever increasingly becoming poor, while the rich are getting richer.....
Truth be told, it will only last while the hungry and destitute majority of Namibia do not see a clear picture, and that Zakesman, is slowly, but surely changing, people are already waking up to the Greed of those who run matters on behalf of the country.
