Who's who in the APP
Ignatius Shixwameni (President)
IGNATIUS Nkotongo Shixwameni was born on September 4, 1966 at Utokota/Shambyu in the Mashare constituency in the Kavango Region.
Shixwameni holds a Masters Degree in Social Sciences (International Relations and Political Studies from the University of Havana, Cuba).
Before the formation of the All People’s Party (APP), he resigned from the official opposition party, Congress of Democrats (CoD), where he at one point served as the Secretary General (2001 to 2003).
However, Shixwameni’s political involvement started with student bodies and the ruling Swapo Party. He was the President and Secretary General of the Namibia National Students’ Organisation (Nanso) from 1987 to 1990. He later became the Swapo Party Youth League Secretary General and a member of the Swapo Central Committee from 1992 to 1997.
In 1999, Shixwameni was elected to Parliament as a member of the Swapo Party, and served as Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting from 1997 to 1999. In 2000, Shixwameni resigned from this ministerial position as well as from the Swapo Party, and formed the CoD with the likes of Ben Ulenga and others who were previously members of Swapo and served in high-ranking Government positions.
Shixwameni resigned from the CoD in 2007 along with 21 others.
He is married with two children, and lives in Windhoek.
Reinhold Madala Nauyoma (Vice President)
Reinhold Madala Nauyoma was born on November 8, 1968 at Eendama in the Ondonga District in the Oshana Region. Nauyoma received a Diploma in Personnel Management from the Polytechnic of Namibia, and later obtained an Advanced Diploma in Marketing and Banking from the Institute of Bankers in South Africa.
He currently works as a salesperson for Supreme Furnishers.
Nauyoma started his political involvement as the Secretary General of the Namibian National Students’ Organisation (Nanso), and later became a member of the Swapo Party armed wing, the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN).
He was a national organiser for the Congress of Democrats (CoD) from 2000 to 2001.
Nauyoma is married with children and lives in Ongwediva.
Mukuve Marcellus Mudumbi (Secretary General)
Mukuve Mudumbi was born on December 15, 1966 at Ncwa, in the Rundu Urban constituency. He finished Grade 12 at the Rundu Senior Secondary School, before working as a project manager at Lux Development from 1999 to 2000.
Mudumbi then went on to work as a financial consultant with Metropolitan (2004 to 2005). He later became an administrative clerk for the Skorpion Zinc Mine from 2002 to 2003.
Mudumbi is a former member of Namibia National Students’ Organisation (Nanso) and the Namibia National Teachers’ Union (Nantu). A former teacher, he is married with children and lives in Rundu.
Herbert Shikongo Shixwameni (National Chairman)
Herbert Shixwameni was born on August 1, 1964 at Utokota/Shambyu in the Mashare constituency in the Kavango Region. He holds a Diploma in Business Administration as well as a teacher’s training diploma.
Before independence, Shixwameni was a Namibia National Students’ Organisation (Nanso) activist from 1986, and was part of the organisation’s national leadership in 1989.
In 1990, Shixwameni served as the first Swapo Party regional secretary in the Kavango Region before he was elected as the party’s councillor for the Rundu Rural constituency in 1998. He also served as a councillor for the Rundu Rural West constituency. He became a member of the National Council, and served as the Administrative Secretary for the Association of the Regional Council until 2007, when he resigned. He is married and lives in Rundu.
