    Default 2009 Elections: November 27 & 28

    Namibia polls on Nov 27, 28

    WINDHOEK: Namibians will go to the polls on Nov 27 and 28 for the 2009 Presidential and National Assembly elections, Namibian news agency, Nampa, reported.

    Nampa said that the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) announced the dates during a media briefing on Tuesday.

    The ECN's Deputy Director for Registration and Planning Theo Mujoro also announced other critical dates of the forthcoming elections.

    The Supplementary Registration process of voters will take place from Sept 17 to 30 countrywide.

    This will be followed by the Nominations process of political parties, independent candidates and National Assembly candidates (party lists) from Oct 1 to 19.

    According to Mujoro, the voting process by people residing abroad and sea-going personnel will be carried out on Nov 13, 2009.

    Thanks Mie1 - Let the campaigning begin and let's show the world that we are mature and make it a free and fair election in all respects!! We owe it to ourselves and those that suffered the ultimate sacrifice. Let's prove our detractors wrong. May the people decide!

    I expect SWAPO to win bot the Parliamentary and Presidential elections albeit with reduced majorities, which is agood thing since absolute power corrupts absolutely.

    I also think the DTA's support will have further eroded to the point where its existence may be questioned although I do hope that their man Johan de Waal gets back into the National Assembly as he is a very hard-working member of Parliament. I'd rather have him back in than the RP people.

    Not sure how RDP and COD will fare, but it'll be intersting, What do you think?

    As you may be aware, the Namibian Parliament recently passed the Electoral Amendment Act which, inter alia, provides for the Electoral Commission to conduct voters registration and polling for Namibians temporarily resident abroad. In this regard, the Electoral Act mandated the Electoral Commission to establish temporary registration points outside Namibia at any designated place.

    The Electoral Commission designated the Namibian Diplomatic Missions abroad as Registration and Polling Stations:

    The supplementary voters’ registration will take place on 17-30 September 2009 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the above mentioned registration centers.

    All Namibians who are not in possession of voter registration cards, and are eighteen (18) years and above by the date of registration, are eligible to register.

    Proof of Namibian citizenship is a pre-requisite, and the following documents can serve that purpose:
    - Namibian Identity Card;
    - Namibian Ordinary Passport;
    - Birth Certificate; or
    - Namibian Citizenship Certificate.

    Namibian citizens living abroad will cast their votes on November 13, 2009 from 7:00 am-9:00 pm.

    Namibians in Namibia will cast their votes on 27-28 November 2009.

    All Namibians of Voting age and resident abroad are kindly called upon to take advantage of the supplementary voter registration and exercise their civic rights as announced above.
