    Default When areNamibia's next elections?

    I heard that elections are due in Namibia in 2009. Are these Presidential and Parliamentary elections? Or only local? Can you put me in the picture? Who are the candidates and parties?

    A presidential and parliamentary election will be held in November 2009 in Namibia. At a South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) party congress in November 2007, current President Hifikepunye Pohamba was elected as President of SWAPO and was also picked to represent the party in 2009.

    Herewith a profile of Namibia's political system:

    Political System: Democracy

    President: Hifikepunye Pohamba (SWAPO) [since 21 March 2005; elected 2004] The President is elected by direct popular vote for a 5-year term. Electoral System: Two Round (Run-off).

    Prime Minister: Nahas Angula (SWAPO) [since 21 March 2005] The Prime Minister is appointed by the President.

    Parliament [bicameral]

    National Council (26 Seats) Two members from each of the 13 regions are chosen indirectly by directly-elected regional councillors; members serve 6-year terms.
    --National Assembly (78 Seats) 72 members are elected by direct popular vote using the party-list proportional representation system, a maximum of 6 non-voting members may be appointed by the President; members serve 5-year terms.
