ADDRESS TO THE NATION BY HIS EXCELLENCY HIFIKEPUNYE POHAMBA, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF NAMIBIA ON THE OCCASION OF THE END OF ELECTION CAMPAIGN
25 NOVEMBER 2009
WINDHOEK
Good Evening Fellow Namibians,
Since the announcement of the Presidential and National Assembly election dates by the Electoral Commission of Namibia, our nation has experienced increased political activities across the country.
All political parties taking part in the elections have mobilized voters to cast votes in their favour. Against this background, the election campaigns have once again demonstrated that our multi-party democracy is alive; our commitment to democratic constitutional values is firm; our commitment to a peaceful, secure, stable and prosperous Namibia is not in question.
Fellow Namibians,
Now that the period of election campaign is coming to a close, I would like to appeal to all registered voters to come to the polling stations to cast their votes on Friday, 27 and Saturday, 28 November.
I appeal for calm, peaceful and exemplary conduct not only at the polling stations but also during the voting process. I appeal to all eligible voters to render their maximum cooperation to the Electoral Commission of Namibia, officials of the Directorate of Elections, as well as to law enforcement agencies. I appeal to all political parties to equally cooperate with electoral officials and law enforcement agencies. I appeal to the Namibian nation to make our guests, the foreign election observers, feel at home by rendering them necessary courtesies and traditional Namibian hospitality. I further appeal to my fellow Namibians not to abuse alcohol, especially during the voting days of 27 and 28 November 2009.
Fellow Namibians,
Let us continue to keep Namibia, the Land of the Brave, peaceful, secure and stable. Let us make Namibia a winning nation.
Let us make Namibia one of the shining examples of democracy not only on the African Continent but also the world over. Let us be proud of our motherland!
I wish our proud nation a peaceful and democratic election process in the coming two days.
Good evening.
