A group of 22 Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) house-to-house campaigners, under the leadership of RDP Youth activist Nicanor Ndjoze (30), has been blocked by Swapo Party supporters at Onesi village in the Omusati Region, Ndjoze told NSHR a few minutes ago. Now the time is 15h10.
A potentially violent mob of some 170 Swapo Party obstructionists, led by unidentified persons traveling in three private vehicles with registration numbers N 2054 UP, N2870 SH and N474 UP, were involved in the incident. The two groups were separated by a group of 6 members of the Namibian Police at the village. A woman, who is said to be part of the Swapo Party group, threatened to a set an RDP vehicle alight.
“We strongly condemn these heinous acts of provocation, intimidation as well as incitement to violence. We call upon the Namibian Police to arrest on sight anyone who provokes others in this fashion. We reject, as utter propaganda, claims by a Swapo Party Regional Councilor at Outapi yesterday that Swapo Party activists yesterday were reacting to provocations from the RDP people”, said NSHR executive director Phil ya Nangoloh.
In a breaking News Press Release yesterday, NSHR reported that another group of at least 200 Swapo Party supporters besieged 14 RDP activists at the town of Outapi, capital of the Omusati Region. The RDP campaigners were compelled to discontinue their campaigns in order to avoid a violent confrontation with Swapo Party provokers at the town.
“We believe that this a coordinated campaign by the Swapo Party in order to ensure a 100 percent win of the electoral battle. These provocations, intimidations and incitements are clearly deliberate and are intended to unduly influence the final outcome of the current electoral process”, said NSHR spokesperson Steven Mvula this afternoon.
