Default Namibia Election 2009 Presidential Debates

There's been much talk about a televised debate between all the candidates vying for the top job during the upcoming elections. What are your thoughts about a debate(s). Would you welcome it: Do you think we need a debate between the contenders?

Absolutely - I think there is a real need for these debates, and I would strongly welcome a debate or two between all the contenders and urge the relevant parties and authorities to pursue this vigorously. It'll not only be a good opportunity to see democracy in action but to compare the styles and arguments delivered by the candidates. I think that televised debates are a powerful tool that enables voters to get a better understanding about the candidates, what they stand for, how they behave (or not), and how they come across. It's also a sign of political maturity and would send a strong message to the world that we are serious not only about elections but about providing voters the opportunity to make up their own minds and to get as much information as possible to do so.

Sure that would be good. Here in Zim it is unthinkable and will never happen while ZANU and Mugabe is in power. It is true that your image will improve if debates take place. At least then all the candidates are on the same level, isn't it? Maybe Namibia should show the way for other countries in region?
