Agnes Samaria failed to qualify for the semifinals of the women’s 800m after finishing fifth in her heat on Friday. Samaria started off strongly and was in the leading group at the halfway stage. With 200m to go she had even taken the lead, completing the 600m mark in 1:33,33. But Samaria faded over the home straight to eventually finish fifth in a time of 2:02,18. Namibia’s two marathon athletes Beata Naigambo and Helalia Johannes finished 28th and 40th respectively in the women’s marathon at the Olympic Games on Sunday, August 17. Naigambo finished in a time of 2:33:29, which was only 12 seconds outside her personal best time.
