  1. Namibia win U17 regional African title

    Namibia’s national U17 cricket team won the ICC Africa Central and Southern Region U17 tournament in Benoni, South Africa on September 1, after beating Zambia in the final.

    In a closely contested final, Namibia prevailed to win the match by only 14 runs.

    Namibia were all out for 159 runs with Andrew Forrest top scoring with 50 runs.

    Zambia were then dismissed for 145 runs, with Wian van Vuuren taking 4/30 which also won him the man of the match award. ...

  3. Paralympic torch lands in Shanghai

    Shanghai - The Paralympic torch was relayed on Monday to Shanghai, the third stop of the flame's "modern China" route.

    The relay started at 9:30am at the Shanghai Foreign Trade University as Zhao Jihong, a prolific Paralympic athlete, launched the 3km relay of 60 torchbearers.
    Jihong, who is visually challenged, had won four golds, three silvers and one bronze in three Paralympics.

    Mafikeng – The protection of biodiversity hotspots depends on the involvement of local communities, according to the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism.

    Speaking at the People and Parks Conference on Monday, deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi said: “Our success in achieving sustainable protection of these hotspots, species and ecosystems will largely depend on the extent to which we involve local people whose livelihoods depend on these resources.”

  5. Mpumalanga residents urged to prevent fires

    Nelspruit -The Department of Local Government in Mpumalanga has warned all people in the province to be extremely cautious and to take every precaution to prevent fires from igniting.

    The warning comes as the weather in the province continues to be windy and conducive for veld fires.
    “The public is urged to avoid starting fires in open veld, not to burn litter, not to throw away cigarette stubs in the veld or to leave fires unattended,” warned the department on Monday. ...
