    Parliament - President Thabo Mbeki's resignation may be effective from Thursday, 25 September 2008.

    Mr Mbeki told the nation on Sunday, that he had formally resigned as President of South Africa.

    Mr Mbeki's resignation letter was read by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete in Parliament on Monday.

    London - The British government says it will support Zimbabwe if the new government of national unity takes rebuilding the nation seriously.

    Foreign Secretary David Miliband said the British government welcomes the prospect of a turn in the tide of suffering in Zimbabwe.

    Tshwane - President Thabo Mbeki has obliged to the decision of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress to recall him and will step down after all constitutional requirements have been met.
