    Christine Briedenhann of the Namibia Swimming Academy was the star swimmer at two Age Group Galas at the Western Suburbs Swimming Pool on Friday and Saturday.

    Briedenhann set the only record of the weekend when she broke her elder sister Jonay’s 200m freestyle record for Girls 12 and under on Saturday.

    Christine completed the event in a time of 2:24,82, which was nearly three seconds faster than Jonay’s five-year-old record of 2:27,63.

    Namibia beat Zimbabwe 4-2 in a FIFA World Cup qualifier at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Saturday afternoon, after leading 3-0 at halftime.

    In a stunning display of attacking soccer, Namibia took the lead through a great strike by Wilko Risser on 18 minutes.

    Rudolph Bester made it 2-0 after scoring from a counter attack and shortly before halftime a cracking freekick by Paulus Shipanga made it 3-0.
