Namibia to host Fistball World Club Cup

Namibia will host the Fistball World Club Cup on 15 and 16 October and will be represented by SKW at the tournament.
Four clubs will travel to Namibia for the tournament including the Brazilian ladies champions Duque de Caxias and their male team Ginastica Novo Haburgo. A ladies team from Austria, Raifeisen Dialog Telekom Arnreit, will also take part in the tournament which will include the current European men’s champions FBS ASO Linz-Urfahr.
Namibia is the only country in Africa, which plays fistball and therefore SKW, who are the current national champions will represent Namibia.
Namibia does not have a dedicated ladies league therefore only the SKW men’s team will participate.
Duque de Caxias ladies team in the past four years has won three national championships and three South American club championships. They won the World Club Cup in 2007 and 2009.
Raifeisen Dialog Telekom Arnreit ladies team won the Austian Bundesliga and the European Club Championship in 2009.
FCB ASKO Linz-Urfahr men’s team from Austria have finished second on two occasions when the tournament was held in Windhoek.
SKW will be represented by Stefan Grogli, Michael Baas, Sven Wiedenroth, Michael Zimny, Christoph Kibirske, Werner Jacobi, Immo Koetting and Olaf Haase. Arendt von Stryk will coach the team with Gian Rudolph and Uwe Seiler as his assistants.
Namibia has hosted the tournament on three other occasions, in 2000, 2002 and 2005. Traditionally the world champions are decided between the best European and South American club team.
On Friday the action starts at 15h00 and on Saturday the matches will begin at 11h30 at the SKW Sports Club.
