Kauanivi, Naigambo win 10km champs

The 23th Chevron 10km Road Champs were held under good, but humid conditions in Windhoek on Saturday. A good turn-out of the fastest road runners in Namibia made for an exciting event. Prize money up for grabs amounted to a total of N$12 000. Windhoek Harriers, the organisers, expressed satisfaction with the particiaption and support from long standing sponsors Chevron. Coca Cola was the beverage sponsor.
Beata Naigambo
The first three places were taken in a close finish by Edward Kauanivi in 31 minutes 20 seconds followed closely by Johannes Naitembu with 31 minutes 21 seconds. Speedster, Frans Hosea, had to be happy to take third place in 31
minutes 35 seconds.
Beata Naigambo led the ladies home in 37 minutes 16 seconds. Second was Helena Iipinge with 37 minutes 35 seconds and Rachel Akukuthela brought up the third position with 38 minutes 51 seconds.
Other times of note were: Sub-veterans Irmo Loth (35:41) and Sharon Schaefer (51:01).
Veterans: Daniel Shikudule (38:01) and Nadine Agnew (46:56). Masters: Manie Ross (45:18) and Grand Master Gerry Lynch (54:40).
Wendelinus Amesho managed a personal best 10km walking time of 59 minutes 37 seconds, which is the best walking performance the 10km event has seen for some time. Tobiasa Abisai came in second with 61 minutes 27 seconds.
Laurensia Elago attained a comfortable win over Stefania Shoombe in the women’s catgory with 70 minutes while Shoombe managed 73 minutes. Rosy Jacobs was third overall and first vet in 63:09. Novice road walker, Tewie Bronkhorst, finished in 76:27.
