SKW’s hardworking midfielder Marko van Wyk scored both goals to maintain their unbeaten start to the season which sees them on 12 points from four matches.
It was Gunners’ fourth consecutive defeat and they remain rooted to the bottom of the log with no points.
In rainy and wet conditions, Van Wyk opened the scoring shortly after halftime. Second half substitute Jacky Stephanus scored a world-class header after a centre by Tjono Jagger, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
SKW’s injury woes piled up when captain Arent von Stryk had to be carried off the field on 80 minutes after breaking his nose. But SKW had the final say when Van Wyk scored his second goal two minutes before the end, after a fine buildup involving Patrick Mkontwana, Elias Lisaku and Edmund Gowaseb.
Ramblers beat Chief Santos
Oshikandela Ramblers finally recorded their first victory of the season when they beat Chief Santos 2-0 at the Ramblers field on Saturday.
Ramblers took an early lead through a great goal by Elvis Kauhuma when he broke clear of the defence and chipped a throughball over Santos’ keeper into an empty net.
Ramblers dominated the first half and they nearly went further ahead when their new striker Dickson Paul hit the crossbar with a long-range shot.
Kauhuma and Paul proved to be a handful for Santos’ defence and another surging run by Kauhuma ended in a penalty for the home side when Santos’ keeper Ben Neibeb fouled him in the box.
Luther Kanalelo’s shot was however weak and Neibeb saved comfortably.
Chief Santos came back strongly in the second half with substitute Celestine Wasserfall and youngsters Clerence Naruseb and Teophilus Tsowaseb all coming close to scoring, but they couldn’t break through Ramblers’ defence, for whom Martin Mhani excelled.
Midway through the second half Ramblers caught Santos with a quick counter attack and Jeremia Baisako’s shot from the left wing hit the back of the net.
Civics beat Black Africa
At the Khomasdal Stadium, Civics staged a great recovery to beat Black Africa 2-1.
Civics dominated possession in the first half, creating numerous chances, but they just could not find the net.
Pineas Jacob hit the post early on, while the impressive Rudi Louw also hit the post with a cross into the box on 30 minutes. From the resultant rebound Jacob missed a great opportunity when he tried to dummy the defence by letting the ball through his legs, instead of just kicking into a gaping open goal.
Black Africa nearly took the lead against the run of play when Bryan Bantam was set clear on the counter attack, but Civics keeper Ofouya pulled off a great point blank save.
Black Africa took the lead on 61 minutes through a great header by Jerome Louis when he outjumped the defence top head the ball high into the net.
Civics seemed to be heading to another defeat, but coach Ricardo Mannetti made three substitutions with 25 minutes remaining which did the trick. Youngsters Eslin Kamuhanga and Salom Henock and Ashley Josop came on and they immediately added new zest to Civics’ attacks.
Civics’ pressure finally paid off in the final ten minutes when Bradley Wermann equalised with a 20m shot, while Kamuhanga scored the winner after superbly controlling a cross and volleying the ball into the net.
Oshakati, Tigers draw
