FNB Namibia on Thursday announced that it will host a Football Festival during the Christmas break featuring FNB’s four Premier League sponsored clubs. African Stars, Black Africa, Oshakati City and Tigers will compete in the first round matches on Saturday, December 27 and Sunday, December 28 while the final will be played at the Khomasdal Stadium on January 10.

Asked why FNB only focused on the FNB sponsored clubs, FNB’s Corporate Communications Manager Cassius Moetie replied:
“We have an agreement that we will assist our clubs to perform well, this is a tangible way of delivering on that promise. While the cost of hosting the FNB Football Festival will be borne by FNB, there will be an added sweetener in the form of token financial prizes for the clubs based on their performance. The FNB Football Festival is not about money, it’s about maintaining fitness levels and improving the standard of the game,” he said.
Moetie added that FNB could possibly take up a fifth NPL club to share in the FNB Club Sponsorship Initiative.
“We are busy talking to one more club and I can unfortunately not divulge any further information in this regard at this point in time. We will make a public announcement when the time is ripe,” Moetie stated.
He said that once the newcomer signed the FNB Club Sponsorship Agreement, the FNB Football Festival would bring the participating clubs to five.
FNB has so far sealed and signed five-year agreements with four crowd-pulling Namibia Premier League [NPL] clubs.
The four clubs are African Stars, Black Africa, Oshakati City and Tigers Football Clubs.
“FNB has successfully negotiated and secured the naming rights of two of the four FNB sponsored clubs. The clubs are now officially FNB Oshakati City Football Club and WesBank Tigers Football Club,” Moetie said.
“Other special agreements have likewise been reached with African Stars and Black Africa to ensure similar win-win relationships,” he added.
Although the content of the FNB and the individual club agreements are confidential, Moetie was prepared to mention that the relationship between FNB and the respective four clubs is set to add mutual value until August 2014.
“We at FNB have a whole lot of exciting innovations, which we want to engage the clubs with. This will introduce a completely new dimension to Namibian club football and align it to what is happening elsewhere in the region, if not the world. Something our football-crazy nation can look forward to,” he said.
