Agnes Samaria crashed out of the women’s 1 500m at the Olympic Games when she came seventh in her heat today.

Samaria completed the race in a slow time of 4:15,80 which was more than 10 seconds off her personal best time for the event.

The pace was slow and tactical from the start and with a lap remaining Samaria was still in with a chance in the leading pack of athletes. But Samaria’s challenge faltered over the final home straight as she could not respond to the other athletes’ stronger finish.

Her heat was won by Irina Lischchynska of Ukraine in a time of 4:13,60, followed by Iris Fuentes-Pila of Spain (4:14,10) and Btissam Lakhouad of Morocco (4:14,34).

The top three athletes qualified for the final along with the top three of Heat 1 and 3 as well as the next two fastest athletes.
