Louw fails to make long jump final

Stephan Louw failed to qualify for the men’s long jump final by the smallest of margins after the qualifying rounds at the Olympics on Saturday.
Louw finished eighth in Group A with a best distance of 7,93 metres, to miss out on a place in the final by a mere centimetre.
Stephan Louw failed to make the Long Jump final at the Olympics after clearing 7,93m in the qualifying round on August 16, 2008.
The top 12 athletes of Group A and B qualified for the final and Louw finished 13th overall, just behind Roman Novotny of the Czech Republic who finished 12th with a distance of 7,94m.
Botswana’s Gable Garenamotse finshed 11th with a distance of 7,95m.
Louw covered a distance of 7,73m with his first jump, but overstepped on his second jump, before clearing 7.93m with his third and last jump.
