Namibia’s Brave Warriors dropped a massive 15 places on the recent Coca-Cola FIFA rankings released this week by the world’s football governing body.
After a disappointing campaign in the 2010 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers, which included three successive losses to Guinea and Zimbabwe, the Brave Warriors are now ranked at 131 in the world and 38 in Africa.
The recent rankings saw Namibia’s Group Two competitors Kenya moving a massive 23 places up to 92 in the world and 24 on the continental rankings. Guinea, who beat the Brave Warriors 4-0 and 2-1 respectively in June, improved by two places on the recent rankings.
They are now ranked 39 in the world and seventh in Africa, while Zimbabwe moved to 82 in the world and 18 in Africa.
Angola are still leading the Southern African Development Community (SADC) contingent despite dropping six places to 61 in the world and 11 on the continental rankings.
Surprisingly, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, who have also had a poor campaign in the 2010 African Nations qualifiers, moved a single place up the ladder and are now ranked 67 in the world and 13 in Africa.
Zambia dropped three places to 73 and 12 in Africa, while Malawi were amongst the biggest movers as they are now ranked 107 in the world and 29 on the continental rankings.
Mozambique dropped 19 places, while Botswana dropped five in the recent rankings. Cameroon, Ghana, Egypt, Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire are heading the continental rankings. New European champions Spain claimed the first spot in the world rankings followed by Italy, Germany, Brazil and the Netherlands.
