Religion is on the wane in the Western World as well and is replaced by a rampant consumerism at the altar of economic growth, and many people feel their lives are hollow and meaning less. I don't think spirituality and rediscovering it is peculiar to Africa, and I do think that finding meaning and spirituality is a very personal matter and journey. I'm sure there is no such thing as an African belief system - there are many different beliefs, ranging from animism to a form of Christianity adapted to very local beliefs. Living a spiritual life is well worth it, and to me it means living with loving kindness.
