  1. Govt, security forces to conduct 2010 training exercises

    Pretoria - Government, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) are to conduct 2010 FIFA World Cup safety and security training exercise ahead of the two international soccer events.

    The five-day training also known as Exercise Shield 3, will kick off on Monday, at four stadia and certain airfields around Gauteng and the North West.

    Johannesburg – The annual Nedbank Soweto Marathon, or “People’s Race” as it’s known to local residents, will take place on 2 November this year.

    The 17th annual People’s Race will see participants start and finish at Elkah Stadium, in Rockville/Moroka. It will be hosted by the City of Johannesburg in partnership with Athletics South Africa (ASA) and Nedbank.

    Johannesburg - FIFA and the 2010 Organising Committee (OC) last week concluded a 10 day inspection tour of all ten FIFA World Cup stadiums with warm praise for the general construction status.

  5. Motlanthe appoints new 2010 board members

    Johannesburg - President Kgalema Motlanthe has appointed four new members to serve on the board of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC).

    The new members include the Minister of Provincial and Local Government Sicelo Shiceka, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Sue van der Merwe, Deputy Safety and Security Minister Susan Shabangu and Director General in the National Treasury Lesetja Kganyago.
