  2. SA to assist with humanitarian efforts in Cuba

    Pretoria - Cabinet has decided that the South African government, working with civil society, should participate in the global humanitarian assistance effort to support the people of Cuba, following the devastation caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

    The hurricanes left seven people dead; 3.1 million people were evacuated; 444 000 houses were extensively damaged and agricultural fields were destroyed in Cuba.

  3. Ministers send condolences to families of bus crash victims

    Pretoria - Cabinet Ministers have sent their condolences to the families and friends of those who died in a horrific bus accident in Piet Retief on Tuesday.

    A bus, carrying 59 passengers from Piet Retief to the Mahlathini village, was involved in an accident when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. The cause of the accident is not yet known.

    A total of 31 passengers died and many more were injured.
