Would it not make sense to submit suggestions here as new posts on this thread? I mean, that is half the fun of such a competition -- seing what others have come up with and then improving on that! What do you think?
Shebeeners,
the name of our community, while creative and original, may be offensive to some and may be perceived to give us and our country a bad reputation.
That is and never has been the intention of this web site. Instead, we want to portray a positive image of Namibia and us, its people. We want to provide a platform for the free exchange of information, a safe space to speak up online, and thereby assert our right to free speech. We want this community to enable us to share and exchange valuable and interesting facts and information and provide an opportunity to build bridges.
The time has come to consider changing the name of our community so as to enable it to be more acceptable to all, to be more neutral in name and as a result attract more readers and members and flourish, fulfil its true potential.
To stand a chance of winning N$300 send me a private message (PM) with your proposed name. All entries sent by private message will automatically enter a draw on 1 April 2009. The lucky winner will be announced on 2 April 2009. I will then put forward a shortlist of 3 names, and put them up for one week for community to vote on.
As ever, I'm looking forward to your proposed name(s).![]()

Hi Neo-RP,
That's what I intially wanted to do, but then I realised that the issue of registering a domain name can be fraught with difficulties. Imagine we list all the possible new names and then someone goes and registers the domain. I would like to make sure that any possible names are actually available and if they are not register them. Does this make sense? Please send me your proposed names by private message (PM). I'll put the best three names up for a vote if the corresponding domains are available and/or obtainable.
Agree with Neo-RP but can also see what you're getting at, Shebeen. I can live with your process and have sent you a couple of suggestions.
