    Default Himba and the dam

    Hi everybody,
my name is Valentina and I work for an association called "A Sud", focused on enviromental clashes around the world.
We found out that, in Namibia, Himba people are threatened by the construction of dams and one hydroelectric power.
Do you know if Himba people created any organization which fights against these projects? Do you know if any local or international organization is working with them?
Could you give us any useful contact?
    Looking forward to you reply,
    Valentina

Wht the project stake holder need to to is to make a proper consultation with the Himba or the community members atlarge. What need to put at the back of our mind is not all the people carry the development and national development at their heart. There might be conflict of interest to this project and a proper fisibility study need to be conducted,

    Hi, thanks for having replied.
However, I have another question: do you know if there are people from Himba associated, informally or formally, to protest? Are you Himba people?
I read some discussions about this topic, and my organization would need some contacts to help you with your struggle.

There are two people that may be able to help you. One is a journalist at the Namibian newspaper, Brigitte Weidlich. (the Namibian: Top Stories).

The other is Phil Ya Nangoloh, the head of the local Human Rights' Association. (Namibia's National Human Rights Organisation) (nshr@nshr.org.na).

You SHOULD be able to get some help there ......

    Thank you.
Do you have the e-mail address of the journalist Brigitte Weidlich?
I tried, but I couldn't reach her by the web site.
